People create problems
PEOPLE find solutions!
Vision and Goals
PEOPLE is to facilitate collaborative R&D and training for providing better understanding and developing innovative engineering and managerial solutions to persistent, emerging and organic pollution in the environment. PEOPLE (Network) develop solutions to the problems created by people.
The ultimate goals of the network are to:
- Form national cluster of expertise and encourage partnerships between academia and private/public sectors and communities for technical development, policy making, business development, and public engagement to support environmental protection and sustainable development, particularly in the cold regions and marine environments;
- Grow multidisciplinary collaborations and undertake relevant applied research for the development of innovative engineering and managerial solutions in terms of monitoring, analysis, modeling, prevention, control and remediation of PEOPs;
- Enhance education and training programs to yield highly-qualified workforce for employment, to support to strengthen the local economy, and to improve Canadian global competitiveness; and
- Provide knowledge and technologies to improve capabilities of government and industry in PEOP pollution prevention, control and mitigation, and to protect Canadian citizens and environments.
Through the gathered expertise and synergic R&D efforts, PEOPLE contributes to the development and implementation of clean technology to help reduce waste and prevent pollution from the sources, and support the use and development of natural resources in a green and sustainable manner. Through the education and training activities, PEOPLE keeps making efforts to increase the environmental and health awareness of communities, and improve their capabilities in protecting themselves from pollution and keeping a safe living and working environment. Importantly PEOPLE can facilitate effective collaborations between the knowledge producers and users to enable industry to advance technological innovation in the relevant industry in keeping with the goals of Canada’s Innovation and Skills Plan and Oceans Protection Plan.
