Description: The objective of this project is to study sub-arctic wetland hydrology through field survey and hydrological modeling in Deer River basin near Churchill, Manitoba. The research has been conducted since 2008 near Churchill and it mainly focused on extensive field investigation which could be described as the combination of hydrological stations establishment and monitoring, meteorological data collection, and soil/water sampling. Field work was routinely conducted twice a week between May and October 2008. Meanwhile, the distributed hydrological model has been developed and tested based on data collected through field investigation. The outputs will be capable of being integrated with results from water quality models and carbon models. Moreover, further prediction and estimation of water cycle and carbon cycle under changing climatic conditions are expected to be interpreted for the Hudson Bay wetland as well as other sub-arctic regions. |
