Digital Image Processing

The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University invites applications for a three year term appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Digital Image Processing commencing on March 1, 2012, or shortly thereafter.

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree in engineering as well as a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline. In addition, engineering project management experience or a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) (or equivalent degree) would be a definite asset.

Duties will include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses. The successful candidate is expected to register as a professional engineer in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Preference will be given to candidates with a strong multidisciplinary background and relevant industrial and/or academic experience in digital image processing; specifically the real-time implementation of advanced image processing functions on reconfigurable hardware. The successful candidate will become an integral member of the Intelligent Sensor Platform research team in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science working on the development of intelligent sensor systems (such as cameras and laser scanners) that satisfy the constraints associated with deployment on autonomous or remotely piloted vehicles.

The successful applicant is expected to participate in research and management of the Atlantic Innovation Fund Intelligent Sensor Platform project, by working closely with its principal investigator.
