New president for the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering

Mr. Gordon JinMr. Gordon Jin, an engineering co-ordinator with Engineering Co-operative Education, was elected as the new president for the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) at the Annual General Meeting, which took place in St. John's on May 29, 2009.

Mr. Jin obtained his B.Eng. (civil) from Memorial University in 1982 and joined the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador 's Department of Public Works and Services as a civil/structural project engineer. In 1996, he moved to the Department of Transportation and Works as a senior bridge design engineer. His professional career with the provincial government covered the design, construction and rehabilitation of building and bridge engineering projects throughout Newfoundland and Labrador . In 2009, he joined Memorial's Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.

Founded in 1887, CSCE is a national, not-for-profit, learned society. It is dedicated to providing civil engineers with opportunities to increase their professional development through continuing education, networking and advocacy, and publications. With a national office in Montreal, CSCE is comprised of 20 sections across Canada, a branch in Hong Kong, and many technical and interdisciplinary committees. CSCE is a constituent society of the Engineering Institute of Canada.
