Graduate Program in Teaching
The Graduate Program in Teaching (GPT) is a one-semester, non-credit program that provides graduate students with training and practice in teaching at the undergraduate level. The program is offered by the School of Graduate Studies in cooperation with the Instructional Development Office during the Fall and Winter semesters at no cost to participants. It is a multi-disciplinary program and welcomes graduate students from all faculties and schools.
The goals of the program are to:
• introduce some of the theories related to adult teaching and learning
• present practical strategies for teaching at the undergraduate level
• provide opportunities to practice teaching skills
• stimulate dialogue about the rewards and challenges of teaching
• support participants in their program-related teaching activities
The Instructional Development Office will be accepting applications for the Winter 2010 offering from October 1–November 30, 2009.
All Memorial University graduate students (part or full time) are eligible to apply for the Graduate Program in Teaching (GPT). Due to the workload associated with this program, it is recommended that the first semester of graduate studies be completed before a student participates in the GPT. Enrolment is limited. Applicants must be registered in a graduate program of study for the semester in which they are applying for the GPT.
After the deadline for applications has passed, admittance is granted in the following order of priority until the maximum registration has been reached:
• doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows
• master’s or graduate diploma students
Within each of the categories, applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Only fully-completed applications, with all required signatures, will be accepted. When the maximum registration has been reached, a waitlist is created and students are added in the order in which their applications are received. If space becomes available admission is offered to waitlisted applicants in the above order of priority.
