Syed Ahmad Imtiaz

Assistant
Professor
B.Sc. (BUET), M.Sc. (Calgary), PhD (Alberta)
I come from a chemical engineering background with a
master’s degree in environmental engineering and a PhD in
process control.
I joined the Faculty of Engineering at Memorial University in March
2010 as an assistant professor in the process engineering
discipline.
From 2006 to until joining Memorial University I was working as a
staff consultant in the Advanced Process Control group at Aspen
Technology. I implemented advanced control solutions to a wide
range of industries including different units (CDU, HDS, FCC) of
refineries, Ethylene Plant, Methanol Plant and Speciality Chemical
plants.
My research is broadly in the area of statistical process control,
treatment of imperfect data and state estimation of nonlinear
processes. I have published my research in peer-reviewed journals
and conference proceedings and I have presented at international
conferences.
Currently, I am looking at application of advanced control and
monitoring techniques to offshore oil and gas and mineral
processes. I am also interested in integrating process monitoring
techniques with remote sensing and wireless technology to perform
process monitoring remotely.
I am open to any collaborative work with industry or within the
university in these or related areas. I am also accepting graduate
students. Please contact me directly if you are interested in any
of these areas.
