Eric Gill
Professor
B.Sc., B.Ed., M.Eng., PhD (Memorial)
My research deals primarily with the scattering of high
frequency (HF) radiation from time-varying random rough surfaces.
In addition to fundamental theoretical work, I am particularly
interested in the application of HF ground wave radar (HFGWR)
operating in an ocean environment. With collaborators in private
industry and government agencies such as the department of
Fisheries and Oceans and the Department of National Defence, there
is also an interest in developing portable HF radar systems. Many
interesting theoretical and application-oriented problems are
currently being addressed. For two decades, Memorial University has
been a leader in this area. My research and that of my colleagues
and collaborators continues to build on twenty plus years of
intensive activity in HFGWR at Memorial University.
I also have a Level VII (highest level) Teacher Certification from
the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador and a Vocational
(Post-Secondary) Teacher Certification from the Province of
Newfoundland and Labrador. Before joining the electrical and
computer discipline of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied
Science in 2000, I taught for 23 years in the College of the North
Atlantic. During my graduate studies in Memorial University's
electrical engineering discipline, I was associated with members of
the Remote Sensing Group at C-CORE. This affiliation continues and
I currently co-supervise graduate students working there. Other
professional associations and certifications include: member of the
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.,
Newfoundland section, of which I am the scholarship chair; Antennas
and Propagation Society; Oceanic Engineering Society; Member of the
American Geophysical Union.
