MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OF NEWFOUNDLAND
TIER II CANADA RESEARCH CHAIR IN ASIC DESIGN
The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for a
Tier II Canada Research Chair in the area of Application-Specific Integrated
Circuit (ASIC) design. The Chair is expected to develop a world-class,
externally-funded research program focussing on the ASIC design process
especially aspects such as synthesis, place & route, verification,
packaging, analog circuit & mixed-mode design, device physics, and interfacing
with optical components. The Chair is expected to build upon existing
institutional strengths and to foster research collaboration with researchers
involved in the Faculty's Centre for Digital Hardware Applications Research and
possibly the Chair in Photonics based in the Department of Physics
and Physical Oceanography. Further information on the Canada Research Chairs
program can be found at www.mun.ca/research/crc and www.chairs.gc.ca.
Candidates shall have an earned Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering,
Computer Engineering or a cognate area and should demonstrate exceptional
potential to build an internationally reputed research program in ASIC design.
Industrial or research experience in a related area is highly desirable. The appointment
will be tenure-track at the Assistant or Associate Professor with the
possibility of a cross or joint appointment with the Department of Physics
and/or the Department of Computer Science. In addition to the research program,
the Chair will participate in the academic programs of the Faculty, including
teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and other educational, scholarly
and professional activities. The successful candidate should be eligible to
register as a professional engineer in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Electrical and Computer Engineering discipline has well-established
co-operative undergraduate programs in both Electrical Engineering and Computer
Engineering, and active graduate and research programs as well as on-going
collaboration with local, national and international industry. Several
researchers work in the area of digital hardware design focussed on
applications such as cryptography, broadband switch architectures, and error
correcting codes.
Memorial University is the largest university in Atlantic Canada. As the
province's only university, Memorial plays an integral role in the educational
and cultural life of Newfoundland and Labrador. Offering diverse undergraduate and graduate programs to almost
18,000 students, Memorial provides a distinctive and stimulating environment
