Ms. Montano is the former Director of the Virtual Development Center (VDC) at the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology. The VDC was a service-learning program in partnership with communities, ten universities, and hi-tech companies in the United States. She has over 20 years of experience in program and project management, digital design, and technical support at various high tech companies in the Silicon Valley, specifically Compaq, Mentor Graphics, Teradyne EDA, Silicon Compiler Systems, and IBM.
Currently, Ms. Montano serves as president of WISE NL and as a member of the board of directors of the WinSETT Centre, an initiative of CCWESTT. She is also a Fellow and national Past President of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the preeminent organization for women engineers in the United States. Ms. Montano received the Distinguished New Engineer Award from SWE, the Chairman's Achievement Award from Mentor Graphics, and the Outstanding Service Award from Silicon Compilers Incorporated. She also served on the Editorial Board of SWE Magazine, the Industry Advisory Committee for the NSF-sponsored Model Institutions for Excellence at the University of Texas at El Paso, and on the Boards of Directors for the Society of Women Engineers and the National Center for Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. In addition to SWE, Ms. Montano holds membership in the ACM, ASEE, IEEE, WEPAN, and WISE NL.
Ms. Montano holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso and a master of education at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She is a Fellow of the School of Graduate Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
