Design
Winner of the President's Award for Outstanding Research,
1992-1993
I graduated in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering
from Glasgow University in 1978 and obtained a PhD in hydrofoil
design in 1982, also from Glasgow University. I taught at Glasgow
University from 1983 to 1987 and joined Memorial University in 1987.
I was also Director of the Ocean Engineering Research Centre from
1994 to 2000, and Chair of Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering
at Memorial University from 1998 to 2003.
I have been fortunate to be involved in outstanding, world renowned
research in the field of ocean engineering, marine propulsion, and
marine hydrodynamics performance evaluation in Canada. As a Tier I
Canada Research Chair in Offshore and Underwater Vehicle Design, I
have built strongly interrelated research teams in both underwater
vehicle design and marine vehicle design involving many industry
partners and researchers from other universities and laboratories
both in Canada and elsewhere.
