I am a professor of computer engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. Since joining Memorial in 1987, as an assistant professor of electrical engineering, I have served in several leadership roles. I was chair of the electrical and computer engineering discipline for four years, associate dean of graduate studies and research for five years, acting dean from March to August 2008 and from Sept. 2008 to May 2009, I was the interim associate dean of undergraduate studies. Currently, I am the dean pro tempore.

I hold a B.E. (Honours) from Madurai University and M.Sc.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of New Brunswick. I worked as a welding research engineer for eight years. I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in digital systems, computer architecture and information and coding theory. I have supervised more than 40 graduate students, published many research papers in various subdisciplines and served as a lead investigator in large research projects.

My current research interests include wireless communications, underwater communications, error control codes and parallel processing. After completing my undergraduate program in electrical and electronics engineering, I was engaged in industrial research in welding for several years before commencing doctoral studies.
