Biography

Dr. Hawlader is a Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He has more than 25 years of experience in research, teaching and consulting in geotechnical engineering. His current research interest includes: (i) modeling of large-scale landslides in onshore and offshore environments using large-deformation finite element and computational fluid dynamics approaches, (ii) soil-structure interaction of pipelines, piles and risers, and iii) modeling of soil behaviour and laboratory testing.

Collaborating with researchers at C-CORE and MUN, his research team conduct physical modeling using geotechnical centrifuge and large-scale pipe-soil interaction tests.
