This technical note outlined a method of obtaining best fit parameters   r   and   s   for a quadratic regression model
            i   =   r V + s V 2
(where   i   is the hydraulic gradient and   V   is the bulk speed (discharge per unit cross-sectional area) of water flow through partially obstructed media such as rock fill dams), given only the parameters   a and N   of a power law model
            i   =   a V N
for the same flow.
