B.Eng, M.Eng., Ph.D candidate

Fuqiang Fan obtained his B.Eng. degree in environmental engineering from China University of Geosciences (Beijing), China in 2009. After that he continued his study in environmental engineering in Beijing Normal University. He received his M. Eng degree under the supervision of Dr. Dou in 2012. In Fall 2013, he started his PhD program at Memorial University of Newfoundland under the supervision of Dr. Helen Zhang.

Fuqiang Fan has a solid background of environmental chemistry and electrochemical chemistry. He is skilled with diverse analytical chemistry equipment such as HPLC, GC/MS, AFS and Electrochemical Workstation. He also has rich experience in microbial characterization techniques, such as culturing, screening, isolation and identification of microorganisms from various sources. He had good records of independently conducting research during his study period as a Master’s student. He participated in several research projects regarding arsenic contamination, remediation of PAH-contaminated soils and biosensor development for the determination of organophosphorus pesticides. These studies focused on adsorption technology, slurry bioreactor technology and manufacturing techniques on integrated electrochemical biosensors. Currently, his PhD study is focusing on NRB-SRB interaction during nitrate/nitrite injection for offshore researcher sourcing control. He is conducting some investigations in biosurfactant enhanced soil bioremediation of hydrocarbons as well.
