Pu Li joined the M.A.Sc. program in Environmental Systems Engineering and Management in November 2006 after he got his B. Eng. degree from SUN YAT-SEN University, China. After graduation, he continued his study in the M.Eng. program under co-supervision of Dr. Bing Chen and Dr. Tahir Husain. Due to his outstanding records and research, he was awarded the Merit Award in 2007 and the Fellow of the School of Graduate Studies in 2010.

After achieving his M.Eng. degree, he continued his research in the Ph.D program under co-supervision of Drs. Bing Chen, Tahir Husain, and Faisal Khan. His Ph.D research mainly focused on the development of an integrated decision support system based on simulation, optimization approach, fuzzy set theory, stochastic simulation, and dynamic theories, and artificial neural network for supporting offshore oil spill response and countermeasures in harsh environments. This pioneering system and the results have provided important assistance to not only decision makers, but also researcher, industries, and government. Due to his outstanding records and research, he was awarded the NSERC Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS D), the RDC Ocean Industries Student Research Awards, and the Dean’s Excellence Award in 2011.

He has been also involved and played a key role in research projects of offshore oil spill management, municipal solid waste management and integrated water resources utilization and management. So far, he has produced 10 journal papers and more than 10 conference papers, and been working on another 4 journal papers based on his research findings.
