B.Eng., M.A.Sc., M.Eng.

Mr. Jiabin Liu received his M.A.Sc degree in Environmental Systems Engineering and Management from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2009 and started his career as an environmental consultant conducting environmental impact assessment, emission inventory development and air dispersion modeling, marine hydrodynamic and water quality modeling, noise propagation modeling environmental monitoring and management planning, and stormwater drainage design etc. He was involved in over 50 environmental studies for a broad range of industries, such as thermal power plants, desalination plants, smelters, oil/gas processing plants, mining sites, wastewater treatment plants and marine terminals.

Mr. Liu joined the NRPOP Lab in 2013 as an M. Eng student (2013-2017) under the supervision of Dr. Tahir Husain, where he focused on the characterization and re-utilization of oil fly ash (OFA), especially on nickel and vanadium recovery from OFA. He also conducted extensive research on disinfection by products (DBP)removal from drinking water using functionalized adsorbents with the collaboration of his teammates. He is currently working as a research and project engineer on the development of hydrophilic meshes for oil and water separations and the removal of emulsified/dissolved oil from water using carbonaceous adsorbents.
