National Engineering Week Activities - Past and Present

This year, National Engineering Week was very exciting. The CSCE NF & LAB Section had a display at the Village Mall.

For the last five years, the Newfoundland and Labrador Section of CSCE has had a display set up in the Village Mall during National Engineering Week to help educate the public about Civil Engineering. We were there on February 28, 1998 to help kick off National Engineering Week.  Pictured at left is our brand new display, designed and constructed by Stephen Garland, secretary of the local section.

In 1996, CSCE shared its booth with MUN's first ever Concrete Canoe, prepared for a competition in Montreal in May of that year. (Memorial's 8 person team finished in second place overall despite major damage to their canoe during shipping. Memorial won the awards for best design and best presentation.) Some team photos and a little piece of history of the canoe are available here.
