There continues to be a prize for technology, awarded annually, in the
name of Dr. George, at

Avalon East School Board (1996-98):
- Secretary and Founding Web Master

- Dr. George was the first Board member in Newfoundland
to place the minutes
of meetings on the World Wide Web for all to see.
- Chair of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee
- Officer of the Board (Secretary) and voting Member of the Executive,
Planning and Priorities, Programmes, and Communications Committees
- Principal author of the School Board’s Constitution (which is

).
- Dr. George created the present letterhead used by the Board and was
the first person to propose a competition among students for a new
Board logo.
- Delegate to provincial and national education conferences

Leisure Interests:
Science Fiction in general.
There were some science fiction fan clubs in St. John’s during the
1990s, including
- the
As Yet Unnamed Doctor Who Fan Club of Newfoundland,
- the U.S.S. Avalon (Star Trek Fan Club) and
- KAG (Klingon fan club).
One club attended regularly this year is the
St. Johns Games Club.
There was a science fiction convention in St. John’s in September 1997,
(Contact ’97), at which Dr. George made a science fact presentation on
relativity, entitled
"Spacedocks and Runabouts".
This presentation was repeated in 1998 at the
St.
John’s Centre of the
Royal Astronomical
Society of Canada.
