Biography
I received my B.Sc., M.Sc. in radio physics (radio wave propagation and antenna) and a PhD in space physics from
the School of Electronic Information
at Wuhan University in 1995, 1997, and 2001, respectively. I also completed an additional
M.Eng. and a three-year post-doctoral fellowship in electrical and computer engineering
at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) in 2004 and 2007, respectively.
From 2008 to 2010, I was a Design Engineer with Rutter Technologies, St. John's, NL, Canada. Since 2010, I have been with the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Memorial University, where I became a Full Professor in 2019 and the department Deputy Head during 2020-2023. I have authored over 260 research papers. My past and present research interests include the mapping of oceanic surface parameters and targets via high-frequency ground wave radar, X-band marine radar, global navigation satellite systems, and synthetic aperture radar, digital image processing and applied electromagnetics.
I have been a Technical Program Committee Member. I served as a Technical Program Co-Chair of the IEEE Newfoundland Electrical and Computer Engineering Conference in 2012 and 2013. I serve as a regular Reviewer over 100 international journals and a Reviewer for many IEEE international conferences, such as RadarCon, ICC, GLOBECOM, IGARSS, and Oceans. I have been the (Lead) Guest Editor of 9 Special Issues on Ocean Radar Remote Sensing for IEEE JSTARS, IEEE Access, Remote Sensing, Frontiers in Marine Science, EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, and the International Journal of Antennas and Propagation. I am an Area Editor for IEEE Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, Remote Sensing, Frontiers in Marine Science, Frontiers in Remote Sensing, and I was an Associate Editor of IEEE ACCESS.
