Researchers
  1. Dr. Wei Qiu

    is a Professor in the Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering (ONAE) Discipline and the Director of Ocean Engineering Research Centre (OERC). He is experienced in marine and offshore hydrodynamics specializing in solving fluid-structure interaction problems using experimental and numerical methods. Dr. Qiu serves as the Principal Investigator and the Program Director of OTR. He will also lead the research in the area of floating structures.
  2. Dr. Brian Veitch

    is a Professor in the ONAE Discipline. Dr. Veitch has worked on Arctic transportation engineering issues over 15 years. Most recently, his research into the performance of small vessels in ice has led to the development of an innovative evacuation craft for operations in ice covered regions.
  • Dr. Shawn Kenny

    is an Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering at Carleton University. He has expertise in the design, construction, and operation of offshore pipelines and subsea infrastructure in deepwater and northern arctic ice environments. He is an expert on strain based and limit states design of offshore pipeline systems using physical modeling and advanced computational methods.
  • Dr. Claude Daley

    is a Professor in the ONAE Discipline and has been working in the Cold Ocean Engineering for nearly thirty years. Dr. Daley will be leading the research on the ice loading and structural integrity of offshore structure subject to harsh environmental loadings.
  • Dr. Ralf Bachmayer

    is an Associate Professor in the ONAE Discipline, and holds a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Ocean Technology. His main research interest is in the design, dynamics, controls and navigation of underwater vehicles. He applies his research to problems in physical oceanography, environmental monitoring and seafloor mapping. More recently he has been working on problems involving the usage of underwater vehicles and sea-floor based systems in ice-covered regions. Dr. Bachmayer will participate in the area of subsea technology.
  • Dr. Heather Peng

    is an Assistant Professor in the ONAE Discipline. She is experienced in marine hydrodynamics specializing in wave-body interactions, shallow water hydrodynamics, dynamic positioning and mooring line/riser analysis. Dr. Peng has been involved in numerous projects related to offshore development, performance evaluation of marine structures and coupled mooring line/riser analysis. She will participate in the themes of floating structures and mooring and riser research and will lead the Admission Committee.
  • Dr. Steve Bruneau

    is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering Discipline. He has extensive experience in ice and iceberg research. Projects include Confederation Bridge ice loads, iceberg impact forces on the Terra Nova FPSO, iceberg risks to offshore pipelines, iceberg ground-truthing for satellite detection and iceberg deterioration field work and analysis for the Canadian Ice Services. Dr. Bruneau will be involved in numerical and experimental modeling of ice loads and the structural integrity subject to ice loads.
  • Dr. Faisal Khan

    is a Professor and the Chair of the Process Engineering Discipline. He is involved in research, and consulting projects related to safety and risk engineering, and asset integrity studies. His areas of expertise include: risk-based integrity assessment and management, safety and risk engineering, and computer aided design and evaluation of offshore assets. Dr. Khan will be leading research efforts in the development of risk assessment methodology and models for structural and operation integrity, and corrosion and material engineering.
  • Dr. Ray Gosine

    is a Professor in the Electrical Engineering Discipline. His expertise is in the areas of underwater vehicles, telerobotics, machine vision and pattern recognition for applications in the oil and gas industries. Dr. Gosine will be involved in the area of subsea technology.
  • Dr. Yuming Zhao

    is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry (Faculty of Science), who is specializing in polymer chemistry and carbon nanomaterials including fullerenes and carbon nanotubes. He is currently leading a research team to conduct organic synthesis, electrochemical analyses, surface microscopic imaging, and electronic spectroscopic characterizations. He will lead the research and training on corrosion material engineering.
  • Dr. Farid Taheri

    is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Resource Engineering, Dalhousie University. He is a leading expert on structural fatigue modeling and assessment. He will lead the research on the fatigue of floating structures and the riser system.

      is the Program Coordinator for the NSERC CREATE Program for Offshore Technology Research. Lynette is a graduate of the Civil Engineering program at Memorial University and a graduate of the MBA program at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo Ontario.
