Civil Engineering 8700 Awards, 2002
As a part of the final semester (Term 8) of the Civil Engineering curriculum at Memorial University, students are required to enroll in Engineering 8700 - Civil Engineering Project. On Wednesday, April 24, 2002, after the Iron Ring Ceremony, the awards were presented in conjunction with the 8700 project course: The W. J. Campbell Award for Best Overall Project, and the CSCE Prize for Best Project Presentation.
Recently one of our local members, Mr. Tom Kierans, FLMCSCE, was awarded Fellow status at the CSCE Annual Conference in Victoria, 2001. Others to recieve Fellow satus in the past were Reg Babstock and Gary Follett. Both are local Section members who were accorded the Fellow status at the CSCE Annual Conference in London, Ontario in June 2000.

On Wednesday, April 19, 2000, after the Iron Ring Ceremony, the awards were presented in conjunction with the 8700 project course: The W. J. Campbell Award for Best Overall Project, and the CSCE Prize for Best Project Presentation.
Three Section Members Receive Prestigious
Awards at CSCE '98!
At CSCE's Annual Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from June 10-13,
1998, CSCE bestowed fellowship on two of the Newfoundland & Labrador
Section's members: Ms. Susan Richter, and Dr. Hesham Marzouk.
In addition, Dr. James Sharp was honored with the James A. Vance
Award.
Established in 1977 in honour of Dr. James A. Vance, (1892-1981), this
award is granted to a civil engineer and CSCE member whose dedicated service
has furthered the advancement of the Society. Dr. Vance joined the Canadian
Society of Civil Engineers as a student in 1914 and, throughout his life,
gave unstintingly of his time, resources and talent to the Society and
its successor, the Engineering Institute of Canada. Mr. Vance served the
Society and the EIC in numerous capacities, including as President of the
latter in 1950.
