iMFE2014_Welcome Message

Welcome Message

On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, I would like to invite you to participate in the International Conference on Marine and Freshwater Environments (iMFE) 2014. Please join us in St. John’s NL, Canada, August 6-8, 2014, at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland, a stone’s throw from the harbour.

Marine and freshwater are essential components of the earth’s hydrosphere and their protection have been one of the most critical and challenging tasks for all the involved researchers, engineers and decision makers at a global scale. Within a global changing context, effective protection and management of water environments demand continuously improved knowledge and technologies, sound decisions and practices, and benign legal and socio-economic environments.

The iMFE2014 intends to provide a unique international platform for exchange of ideas and experiences amongst researchers, practitioners and regulators in the field. Through this 3-day event, they can discuss and appreciate of various aspects involved in the protection of freshwater and marine environments as well as sustainable development of natural resources (water, oil & gas, mineral, etc.). A broad range of topics will be covered such as marine protection, water management, oil spill responses, infrastructure sustainability, resources development, and policy making. Particularly the associated challenges and opportunities under harsh environmental conditions will be explored. The focus of the conference is set on fostering an integrative understanding of water and the environment as well as probing sound engineering solutions. The wealth of information exchanged in this international conference will be of great benefits to all involved with marine and freshwater protection problems at both regional and international scales.

The technical program will feature a combination of keynote addresses and technical papers outlining the latest technology, combined with an outstanding exhibition. The conference will begin with a plenary session featuring presentations by leading experts in the field and end with selection of quality papers in special issues in three peer-reviewed journals.

The committee cordially invites you and your colleagues to submit abstracts and/or papers for this important event. I encourage anyone that is involved with marine and freshwater protection and management, or thinking it might be related to the field you are working, to attend this conference. Mark your calendar now and make plans to attend!

The iMFE2014 will be a great conference and I look forward to seeing you in St. John’s!
