Index of Lecture Note Files

The files listed here are the various chapters of the MUN publication “Lecture Notes for ENGI 3423 Probability & Statistics.

The 2008 and 2010 editions are identical, except for the date on the title page.

Note that some key statements and diagrams are missing (deliberately) from these notes.
These omitted items of information will be provided in class.
A complete version of each chapter will be provided only after all of the relevant lectures for that chapter have taken place.
All Word files below are in Word 2000 or 2003 format.   MathType 5 was used for many equations.

  1. Introduction.
  2. Descriptive Statistics.
  3. Fair Bet, Odds, Sets, Venn diagrams.
  4. Elementary probability examples, Counting techniques.
  5. Conditional probability & Independence.
  6. Discrete Random Quantities;   Expected Value and Variance.
  7. Discrete Probability Distributions.
  8. Continuous Probability Distributions;       Exponential and Normal distributions.
  9. Joint probability distributions;       Point estimators, bias, precision;
    + supplementary notes on the Central Limit Theorem
  10. Confidence intervals;       + supplementary notes:   Introduction to Inference.
  11. Hypothesis Tests: (one and two samples).
